Today we introduce a new series of blog posts called “Upright5.” Rolls right off the tongue, doesn’t it!
An Upright5 entry is a fast-reading list of 5 reasons why we suggest a specific tool or strategy for success in your business. Today’s Upright5 lists 5 reasons to start a blog on your website. Know you’re ready to start blogging? Email me at eric@walkupright.com for setup instructions and a complete starter’s manual. In the meantime, the list begins:
1) You have it in you. You do have the time to write 2 entries a week. (The full benefits of #2 and #3 below are achieved when your company writes two entries weekly.) You do not need to be a Pulitzer prize winner to engage with customers and prospects in a lively, personal dialogue. And, having more than one blog contributor in your company reduces the responsibility of each writer, and creates a richer “voice” for your business.
2) Earn higher rankings. Write entries focused on your website’s keywords. The more keyword-rich content you write, the more you will appear to search engines as a subject matter expert. As a result, you will achieve higher placement for the keyword phrases you use most.
3) Increase traffic. Besides the traffic benefits of higher search engine placement, blog readers and subscribers will visit your site repeatedly to view your exciting, useful content. They will share your entries with colleagues and through social media, expanding your “thought influence” and bringing in potential customers who might not already be familiar with your products and services.
4) Share timely content. Have a new product, promotion, or location? Blog about it. Eager to boost business for a product on your site that isn’t performing well (either in search engines or in online orders)? Write about it on your blog for a quick renewal of interest among readers.
5) Gain credibility. By blogging regularly and insightfully, you will gain authority among readers and site visitors. You’ve undoubtedly viewed faceless, anonymous sites; for subconscious reasons, these sites might be difficult to “trust.” Stand out from the crowd with smart, funny, or even contentious entries to gain trust and consistent readership. This will surely boost your site’s conversion rate and win over new customers.
